This may be an old thread but today, Sept 9, 2011 with the newest version of Cubecart, NOTHING has changed. The software is incredibly buggy and this comes from an experienced cubecart user for four years - this is my last. A vanilla version of oscommerce seems to be less buggy. I mean you upgrade and the import scripts wipes all the manufactures off of your 15,000 products (wow...excellent...). There simply are no manufactures no longer assigned to the products. I can go on and on and frankly, I am tired.

Caving to a paid version of Magento - let's see if ebay screws that one up...

heh sure - don't get me wrong, cubecart IS value for money, my point is that it can only take you so far - and then a lot of time and effort needs to be invested into it to make it grow...

then again - i cannot recommend an off-the-shelf solution that will do all i consider to be essential either.... perhaps magento - only it can be difficult to setup. each to their own - and credit where credit is due, cubecart IS a viable choice.

As a developer I choose CubeCart because of how accessible the code is but I agree it's a real PITA when 3rd party mod suppliers base64 encode their mods. I needed to mess about with one mod so I contacted the original developer and they supplied me with the decrypted version, no hassle.

I'm at the same stage with a couple of 4.2.x sites where they're hacked, tweaked and patched to the nines making any upgrade to 4.3.x a process of page-by-page comparison...

I've tried other applications, but keep coming back to CubeCart. The cost I don't have a problem with, it's just over £100 at the moment for a licence and copyright key which for commercial software, I think is ok. I'd love it to be free, but I'm sure Al and the team also love to be able to eat :)

I'm hoping to pester Al enough so that he lets me into any v5 beta testing...

Well, thanks for the reply, Al--appreciated.

Regretfully, an upgrade is no longer possible with all the adhoc fixes and improvements applied over time, it would prove to be too much of a task for anyone. On the upside, its now gotten to the point where it works fine and does not hinder the sales team any more.

Perhaps I would consider installing your new version and seeing if things have improved at some point, good to see you are looking to improve it.

My name is Al the owner/founder of CubeCart.

Firstly you were using CubeCart 4.2.0, which at the time of this post was already eight month out of date the the 4.2.1 release that superseded it. A lot of bug fixes were made in that that.

4.3.0 was released in November 2008 one month after this post which vastly optimized the related products query and fixed a great deal of other bugs.

CubeCart has had optimization improvements from 4.3.0 and above. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.
